Personalised NapkinsThese sculptural napkins still hold the laundry marks and name of hotel from their past use and are a reminder of our now disposable society. They have inspired me to reinvent the linen napkin in a narrative way by washing, starching and pressing them in the traditional style. They are then screen-printed over with sketched images of valley houses and folded into the traditional napkin fold. I use recycled napkins for the sculptural pieces along with screenprinting and recycled fragments of textiles from traditional family table clothes and domestic textiles. These textile napkin’s can be personalised and boxed framed as single napkins or as sets of three to form humorous textile streets, they can also be placed as a sculptural form singly or as a group.
Inspired by past memories of Sunday Lunch and Teatimes, with grandmothers and old aunties as a child, reflecting on overheard adult conversations. |
